As some of you may know, this isn’t the first time I’ve welcomed people to The Enterprise! In a different time, before social media as we know it, where the sound of a dial-up modem and ANSI graphics in a text terminal on your CRT monitor was all the rage, we operated The Enterprise BBS, here in Altoona, PA. One of several community bulletin board systems, we offered online message boards, online games, email, chat, and networking with systems across the country and the world.
With a few hundred users, we had a thriving tight-knit online community in the mid-to-late 90’s. The era of the BBS now exists on the fringe, although a growing number of people young and old have started exploring the concept once again.
Moving past the 1990’s, I thought it would be fun to revive The Enterprise in a modern format. In the future, we may showcase a blast from the past and bring the old system back online again. For now, enjoy your time here, and let’s try to build a new flourishing, civilized community.
